Error correction? While I knew that our genetic makeup was ultimately fashioned using the sequences in DNA, I didn't know that this sequencing operated at a level where error correction was facilitated.. although this error correction clearly is not infallible.

What I found even more interesting were the parallels drawn between the DNA sequencing and the digital language of computers. While binary consists of a system of 0s and 1s- two building blocks arranged in various octet combinations- imagine the combinations you could achieve where the system had 4 building blocks!! Imagine the possibilities if we were able to harness the same DNA structure to carry stored data- archiving terabytes of information in the seeds of an apple!

Lastly on Darwin, having read ‘On the Origin of Species’, I did not know that he conceded he could not answer the origin of life per se- ‘presupposing one or two simple life forms’ as Meyer puts it. I think many people today don’t know this subtlety and believe Darwin was largely atheistic in his approach- when in reality he was simply proffering a mechanism by which nature could ‘give the appearance of design without itself being designed in any way’ and ‘supplant the need for design intelligence’ as an ongoing process.

For someone who has struggled with evolution versus creationism, this was an eye-opening article. Thanks Rod!
